About Magnifications
Magnifications is a rumbling and gentle beast of exploded cello work that often sounds as much like the shimmering of an orchestra of cymbals as it does the vibrations of a cello string. Ted Laderas aka Oo-Ray creates his sonic monsters with a studied combination of digital and analog processing techniques. The project is mostly improvised and then meticulously tempered in the studio - though both "Milky" and "Sfumato" are raw live recordings. The result of years of personal reinvention from his home base of Portland Oregon, Magnifications is a solid document of shoegaze magic and tightly layered electroacoustic goodness.
About The Oo-Ray
After 5 years playing with the electro duo Ainu, Ted Laderas wanted a change of direction. He started to learn cello and listen to My Bloody Valentine obsessively. The Oo-ray is his new ambient drone project, inspired by the shoegazer greats. Layering thick cello chords with distortion, he aims to drown the listener in a sea of sound, producing sustained ecstasy from his slow bow strokes.
Magnifications CDR
These handmade CDR editions of Magnifications feature an additional twenty-four minutes of remastered live material and come with buttons, an Oo-Ray postcard, and a booklet insert with liner notes written by Disquiet's Marc Weidenbaum.
